Limits of Lithuania karst regions (WMS service)
Description
The map of Lithuanian Karst Region M 1:50 000 boundaries shows the extension of karts and karst-suffosion phenomena in the territory of Lithuania. Karst phenomenon is related to dissolution and transportation of gypsum. During the process, cavities are formed in the underground and at the surface of the Earth karstic forms – sinkholes, depressions etc. can develop. The map was created by analysing and determining the distribution of karst relief forms and taking into account available geological information such as presence of gypsum, thickness of gypsum, thickness of gypsum bearing rocks etc.
