[archive] French patents at the INPI and the EPO
Description
The raw data is provided by INPI and comes from an extraction of its internal database from 2015 enriched with the Patstat database for certain European patents. This is the basis for publications of patent applications and grant of patents in France at the INPI (national channel), and European patent applications from the European Patent Office (EPO) entering the French national phase. The full INPI patent database is available for re-use under a license (https://www.inpi.fr/en/services-et-services/bases-en-acces-libre)
The patent data show the dates of proceedings, the French addresses of applicants and inventors, the nature of applicants and the codes of the International Patent Classification (IPC) and related technological nomenclatures. In order to protect personal data, the names and addresses of inventors and depositors (natural person) are not included in this dataset.
Each patent is geo-located at different levels depending on the address of the applicants and inventors: countries, regions, departments, urban units, municipalities.

The objective of this atlas is to contribute to the understanding**of research and innovation activity in France** through a territorial analysis of the number of patents. Based on a reliable, historised corpus, incorporating key nomenclatures of technology, the atlas answers simple questions about the publication of patent applications and grant of patents (what, where, how much, who?). An annual update of this atlas is planned. The data available in this open game has no legal value.
