Gradient coefficients of dynamic profiles
Description
Enedis has published since January 2020 the gradient coefficients of dynamic consumption profiles used as part of the capacity mechanism. This information makes it possible to take into account the effects of temperature on customers’ electricity consumption.
They are thus essential to estimate (extrapolate) the consumption in times of extreme cold of each supplier and thus fix the amount of “capacity” (production/erasure) that each of them must hold to cover the consumption “at the cutting edge” of its customers, in order to secure the supply of the French electricity system. The (winter) sensitivity of electricity consumption to temperatures is significant, rising to almost 2 000 MW/°C over certain hours of the day at the Enedis perimeter.
Dynamic gradient coefficients are used in the capacity mechanism regulations to extrapolate dynamically profiled customers’ consumption during very cold periods.
