College Value Added Indicators

Description

The value-added indicators of colleges, the IVACs, are a set of indicators that aim to assess the specific action of each college to make the students it welcomes succeed, in terms of success at the national diploma of the patent (DNB) and support throughout its schooling at the college. They are calculated for the first time for the 2022 session of the DNB. The IVACs allow a diagnosis that goes beyond that which can be made solely from the ‘raw’ success rates at the examination. To give a picture of the contribution of each college, the statistical calculation tries to eliminate the impact of factors of academic success outside the college, to try to preserve what is due to its own action. In order to judge the effectiveness of a college, the success of each of its pupils must therefore be compared with that of comparable pupils enrolled in comparable colleges. Indicators in "value added" thus accompany the "gross" indicators. For each college, the added value corresponds to the difference between the results obtained and the results expected, taking into account the educational and socio-demographic characteristics of the pupils received. The analysis combines individual student factors (age and gender, grade 6 assessment score, social profile) and factors related to the structure of the school (among applicants: percentage of girls, share of students lagging behind in school, social profile and average score on sixth grade evaluations). Added value is a relative, not an absolute, approach. If the added value is positive, there is every reason to believe that the school was more successful than expected, given the profile of the students it welcomed. If negative, this means that the institution’s results are below the average of similar institutions’ results. IVACs are broadcast only for contracted public and private colleges with at least 30 students attending the general series exam. The added value is not calculated if the scores in the sixth grade assessments are found for less than 75% of the candidates.
