Demography of health professionals from 1999 to 2011

Between 1999 and 2011, health professionals were listed through the ADELI directory (audioprosthetists, dental surgeons, dieticians, occupational therapists, nurses, MMR manipulators, massage therapists, doctors, opticians-mooners, speech therapists, orthoptists, pedicure-podologists, pharmacists, equipment professionals, psychologists, psychomotricians, midwives, and laboratory technicians).
The ADELI directory (Automatisation of lists) has been set up to meet the obligation to register diplomas of health professionals by the State services in accordance with the Public Health Code and to be able to have the regulatory lists of persons practising in each department. It is the Regional Health Agencies (RAS) that are the registration counters for the professionals concerned by this directory. It should be noted that, despite the legal obligation to register, this directory has some fragilities. First, healthcare professionals are not actually encouraged to unsubscribe (registration is free, unlike RPPS) when they cease their activity temporarily or permanently, which may lead to overestimating the number of practising older professionals. On the other hand, new professionals sometimes slow to register their diplomas in the repertoire (especially when they start with an employed activity), which tends to underestimate the share of the younger ones.
The field taken into account in the tables consists of all practitioners who have declared a liberal or salaried activity, the employed assets. It therefore excludes volunteers and job seekers. In Adeli when a professional declares more than one activity, it is the main activity that is chosen for the compilation of these statistics.
