A “exchange hub” is a place where different transport networks are interconnected. It is therefore an urban space specially designed to combine the different modes of passenger transport and encourage the practice of intermodality. Hubs of trade are an essential element of mobility systems in cities. Their creation and implementation are guided by a planning approach provided for in the Urban Displacement Plans. The hubs of exchanges are not merely transit points; they are also places of privileged access to all the other components of the service essential to the realisation of the trip (modal information, sale of securities...). They are also living places where related activities can develop (fast food, press, small repairs, city information..) that help to enhance travel, facilitate the management of waiting times and whose attractiveness can extend beyond the transport clientele alone.
Categories according to their function in the metropolitan transport network:
\- Front door: at least one high-level service and regional/international accessibility line. Parking-relay possible with more than 50 places.
\- Liaison: at least 2 high-level connecting lines or 1 station served by at least one high-level service line. Parking-relay possible with more than 50 places.
\- Relay: A high-level line of service and parking-relay with more than 50 places, or 1 station and a bridge car park with more than 50 places.
