Baltic Sea – Geological map (Shepard), 1:200,000

The data come from the digitization of the Geological map of the Baltic Sea bottom in the scale of 1:200,000 published by the Polish Geological Institute - National Research Institute in the years 1989-1995. The main content of the map is the lithological diversity of the surface sediments of the bottom of the southern Baltic and their genesis. In addition, underlying sediments are shown if the surface layer is less than about 20 cm thick. The basis for distinguishing granulometric types of sediments was the F.P. Shepard classification, using the division of grain classes according to Wentworth (classification triangles). In the classification, sands are additionally divided into four subtypes. There are a total of 17 types and subtypes of granulometric sediments in the study area.
