Corine Land Cover (CLC) 2006 in the Valencian Community

Description

CLC2006 is one of the datasets produced under the Corine Land Cover programme that refers to the status of land cover/land use for the reference year 2006. This layer is generated from the changes detected in soil cover between 2000 and 2006 (although the 2006 reference image belongs to the year 2005). Corine Land Cover (CLC) is a European programme, coordinated by the European Environment Agency (EEA), to provide coherent information on land cover and changes in land cover across Europe. CLC products are based on photointerpretation of satellite images of national teams from participating countries (EEA members or cooperating countries). The resulting national land cover inventories are integrated into a transparent land cover map of the whole of Europe, which is obtained using a standard methodology and with a single nomenclature for all European countries. Thus, the CLC project consists of the following basic parameters: 44 classes in Corine's 3-level hierarchical nomenclature; a minimum mapping unit (MMU) of 25 hectares; a minimum width of the linear elements of 100 metres. The CLC programme is also part of the Global Monitoring for Environment and Security (GMES http://gmes.info) initiative, led by the European Commission Agency and the European Space Agency, which will provide environmental information from a combination of air, space-based observations and in situ monitoring systems.
