Description

Basic topographic map of the Czech Republic 1 : 5,000 in S-JTSK (ZTM 5/S-JTSK) has been expanding the scale series of the state map work of the Land Survey Office since 2023. ZTM 5/S-JTSK is produced from the Basic Base of Geographic Data of the Czech Republic (ZABAGED®), the 5th generation digital relief model of the Czech Republic (DMR 5G), the database of geographic names of the Czech Republic Geonames and the cartographic database Data10. The data are processed in the cartographic database ZTM 5 of the IS SMD technology line. It consists of print files with the complete content of the map sheet in PDF format in CMYK colors and raster files of the map field in TIFF format in RGB color space, with 24 bit color depth, 508 dpi resolution and LZW compression. Data for the vector formats ZTM 5/S-JTSK – SHP and DGN8 are also exported from the cartographic database, allowing a certain level of editing in GIS and CAD applications. The unit of issue is the map sheet ZTM 5, which in the case of the TIFF raster file and vector data is a segment of 2.5x2 km, with sides parallel to the S-JTSK coordinate axes. In the case of raster format, the positioning of segments in the coordinate system is ensured by text files (TFW) for displaying S-JTSK / Krovak EN. In addition, the PDF print file contains grids (S-JTSK Kilometre Network, ETRS89/TMzn Geographical and Kilometre Network), a map frame with frame data (e.g. directions of selected roads, names of half-registered settlements, description of neighbouring states, coordinates) and extra-frame data (e.g. explanatory notes, tirage data, graphical numerical and slope scale, graphical representations of the overview of administrative and cadastral boundaries and boundaries of protected areas). Furthermore, the area of the map field is extended by an overlapping strip of 100 meters in the direction to the east and west and 50 meters in the direction to the north and south. ZTM 5/S-JTSK contains positioning, altimetry and description. The subject of positioning are settlements and individual objects, roads, water, boundaries of administrative units and cadastral areas, boundaries of protected areas, points of the positional point field, vegetation and soil surface. The subject of altimetry is terrain relief depicted by contour lines and terrain grades. The description of the map consists of the generic designation of objects, standardised geographical nomenclature (including street names), contour dimensions, elevation dimensions and descriptive numbers. Only objects of the map content occurring on the territory of the Czech Republic are depicted. Necessary generalizations and shifts of individual objects are used to a very limited extent. The map thus provides detailed information about the demarcated area with high positional accuracy and with the preservation of the shape and size of the displayed surface topographic objects as in the source databases.
