Description
Areas of activity are geographical divisions that are reported with data on the number of employees, the number of establishments, the largest industry (at departmental level according to SNI 2007) and area. An area of activity may consist either of a concentration of several sites, which together form a geographically delimited area, or an area characterised by large-scale and industrial land use and having at least one site. An area of activity is at least 3 hectares in size. Examples of areas of activity are airports, mines and quarries, areas of industry, commerce, business parks, technical facilities and logistics or areas of colleges, universities and healthcare facilities. Business areas are a complement to the data set of trade areas. These two types of area may overlap geographically. Areas of activity may overlap with other types of area delimitations from Statistics Sweden, such as agglomerations and small towns. Areas of activity are published every five years starting in 2015. Areas of operation replace the previous data set of non-urban workplace areas, which was produced for the years 2005 and 2010.
