Description
The product includes two layers of maps describing soil moisture. These raster maps are produced by co-processing data from Lantmäteriet's national laser scanning and sample areas from the Swedish National Forest Inventory (SLU). The raster cells have a size of 2 x 2 meters. The values for a raster cell describe the average soil moisture during the year. The soil moisture map is based on hydrological modelling based on GSD-Höjddata grid 2+ © Lantmäteriet. Below is a brief description of the variables included in the product. SLU Soil Humidity Map SLU Soil Humidity Map was created by combining information in 24 different maps and using field data from 20,000 of the National Forest Inventory's sample plots distributed across Sweden to train the model (through so-called machine learning) where it is dry and where it is wet. This means that the map is adapted to different regions with different topography, climate, and soil types. SLU soil moisture map shows how likely it is that a pixel in the map should be classified as wet, it can be seen as an index where 0 is dry and 100 wet. On the SLU soil moisture map, the colours indicate different soil moisture levels; dry soil is red, moist soil is yellow, fresh-moist soil is green, moist soil is turquoise and wet soil is blue. But the colours on the map ‘melt together’ for smoother transitions. SLU Soil moisture map classified The classified soil moisture map shows soil moisture divided into three classes: 1. dry-fresh, 2. fresh-moist and 3. moist-wet. Open water (lakes and streams) has been classified as 4. Read more about the individual raster maps at http://www.slu.se/mfk.
