Bedrock 1:50 000 - 1:250 000
Description
The bedrock map is a two-dimensional model of the bedrock's upper surface, describing important characteristics of identified geological units, their geometry, the material that builds the units and the geological events they have undergone. The bedrock map also includes the structures of the bedrock and their properties. The bedrock map is based on geological field observations in combination with interpretation of analytical results and geophysical data. The purpose of the bedrock map is to provide a basis for analyses in connection with exploration, comprehensive planning of buildings and facilities, geothermal energy extraction, work with various issues in the environmental field, research and education. The information in the map can be used for the production of various thematic products, such as maps of nutrient content, thermal conductivity and suitability for facilities. The information forms the basis for SGU's printed bedrock maps and various map services. The mapping has taken place from the early 1960s with different methods, different observation density and for different presentation scales. This means that there are major differences in quality within the product, both in terms of positional accuracy and information content. The differences in mapping methods used in the mapping are reported by marking the information as different types of maps.
