Flood mapping of Lake Mälaren
Description
The flood mapping for Lake Mälaren has been produced within the framework of the government commission, Consequences of a flood in Lake Mälaren, Fö2010/560/SSK. The assignment was to analyse and assess the consequences of a flood in Lake Mälaren for different sectors of society. In order to carry out the assignment, several different methods of analysis have been used. Among other things, a number of GIS analyses have been made based on a flood mapping of Lake Mälaren. The flood mapping for Lake Mälaren only refers to Lake Mälaren, not flowing watercourses, etc. Lake Mälaren has in this mapping been considered a "flat" lake. No hydraulic model has been created. The mapping shows the distribution of Lake Mälaren from the mean water level, +0.9 m in RH2000, and for each decimetre interval up to the theoretical maximum level, +3.1 m in RH2000. The basis for the mapping is the National Height Model, http://www.lantmateriet.se/en/Maps-and-geographic-information/Hojddata/GSD-Hojddata-grid-2/, produced by Lantmäteriet. In addition to water distribution at different water levels, the flood mapping also includes data that enables the development of water depths at different water levels, as well as information on potentially enclosed areas at different water levels. Potentially enclosed areas are areas that are below the water surface of Lake Mälaren but which, according to the elevation model, are not in direct contact with Lake Mälaren. These are, for example, areas that are within a grassland.
