AM.Nature conservation agreements drawn up by the Swedish Forest Agency
Description
The Nature Conservation Agreement is a civil law agreement signed between the Swedish Forest Agency, county administrative board or municipality and landowners who are interested in nature conservation. The aim of the agreement is to conserve and develop areas of high natural value. The term of the agreement can vary between 1 and 50 years and is part of the long-term forest protection. The landowner receives some financial compensation for the restrictions on use that the agreement entails. The compensation is based on the area's forest economic value (assessed root net) and the length of the contract period. Nature conservation agreements can be concluded both for areas that are dependent on management to preserve the natural values and for those areas where the natural values benefit best from free development. The areas are usually between 3 and 20 hectares in size, but there are areas of more than 100 hectares.
