Seas and oceans of the world
Description
This dataset represents the boundaries of the world's major oceans and seas. The source of the limits is the publication "Limits of Oceans & Seas, Special Publication No. 23" published by the IHO in 1953. The dataset was produced by the Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ).
NB: The Southern Ocean is not included in the IHO publication and its boundaries are being discussed within the scientific community. The Flanders Marine Institute acknowledged the controversy around this topic, but decided to include the Southern Ocean in the dataset, as the term is often used by scientists working in this field.
