Limit of 1 mile of the low-water mark - Metropolis
Description
The 1 mile limit of the low-water mark is built 1 mile downstream of the baseline. This is the low-water mark equivalent to hydrographic zero, i.e. the normal baseline outside areas where there is a straight baseline. It is the default downstream limit for "coastal waters" within the meaning of the WFD. The downstream limit of "Coastal Waters" may, however, be extended offshore to include all "Transitional Waters". The construction takes into account isolated benches, lighthouses and turrets located outside the straight baselines and less than 12 miles from the mainland or an island (elements used for the calculation of territorial waters: Chausez, Roches Dover, Plateau de Cordouan).
The source data are data derived by calculating elements contained in the SHOM databases: REGMAR (baseline), Lighthouses and beacons and BDBS (watershed zero).
