Morpho-sedimentary sensitivity index of the foreshore of the French coast (ESI - Environnement Sensitivity Index)
Description
Representation of the ESI morpho-sedimentary sensitivity index of the French coast.
The index is produced from the description of the morpho-sedimentary nature of the coastline as well as from the assessment of its level of exposure to hydrodynamics. The vulnerability of coastal areas to hydrocarbon damage was classified on a scale of 1 to 10. To simplify the reading of the maps, these 10 classes have been grouped into 5 families: ESI 1-2, ESI 3-4, ESI 5-6, ESI 7-8, ESI 9-10.
Because of the differences that may exist between the bottom and the top of the foreshore (identified under the term "coastline" in the context of the POLMAR-Earth Atlases), the nature of the foreshore and that of the coastline have been mapped separately. This layer represents the morpho-sedimentary sensitivity index of the foreshore of the French coast.
