INSPIRE - Official bathing areas in Wallonia (BE)

Description

The data "Official bathing areas" includes the delimitation of the official bathing areas whose water is monitored during the bathing season. The data is presented here in its INSPIRE compliant version. Bathing areas are officially designated by the Walloon Region via Decree of the Walloon Government (AGW of 24/07/2003, 27/05/2004, 29/06/2006, 14/03/2008, 12/07/2012, 13/03/2014 and 02/06/2015). They are monitored for the bacteriological quality of the waters during the bathing season. During this period (from 15 May to 30 September), the water quality of these sites is checked bi-monthly (or even weekly if necessary) under the responsibility of the Walloon Public Service. The current status of bathing water quality can be consulted on the site; http://environnement.wallonie.be/bath/ Wallonia has officially designated 33 bathing areas. 26 of them are potentially accessible for bathing in Wallonia, the other 8 (one less than last year) being banned from bathing all season because of their history of contamination (E. coli and intestinal enterococci) assessed on the basis of EU standards. This data layer is represented cartographically under two representations, depending on the level of scale: point (data visible below scale 1:15.000) and polygonal (data visible above scale 1:15.000)
