INSPIRE - Limits of the African swine fever control zones in Wallonia (BE)

Description

This series of data layers presents the boundaries of the areas with various temporary measures for the control of African swine fever in wild boar in the infected area in the Walloon Region, as well as the delimitation of the no-traffic zone. The data is presented here in its INSPIRE compliant version. In the fight against African swine fever, the Walloon Government has adopted various measures. On 30 November 2018, the Walloon Government redefined ‘Areas carrying out various temporary measures to combat African swine fever in wild boar in the infected area in the Walloon Region’ as ‘the Walloon Government Order of 30 November 2018’ and amended on 11 January 2019, 19 February 2019, 19 March 2019. On 6 June 2019 the Walloon Government issued a new decree laying down various temporary measures to combat African swine fever in wild boar. This repeals the AGW of 30 November 2018 in its entirety. It shall take effect on 1 July 2019. In addition, the decree of 18 December 2019 amends the decree of 6 June 2019, in particular on the delimitation of zones. The areas concerned are as follows: 1. Infected area * active search for wild boar carcasses, * installation of a network of fences. * Requirement to have completed training in biosecurity rules to hunt and destroy, 2. Enhanced observation area * active search for wild boar carcasses, * mandatory reporting of any dead boar, * obligation for holders of hunting rights to organize the destruction of wild boars on their territory, * Requirement to have completed training in biosecurity rules to hunt and destroy, * extraction of wild boars hunted by professionals, * analysis of wild boars drawn on the basis of sampling, 3. Vigilance zone It is an "operational area for the management of the epidemic around the buffer zone, where the probability of finding wild boar positive for African swine fever is lower than in the enhanced observation area". It states that "there will be no restrictions on logging and movement". Beyond these areas, any boar found dead must be reported, especially via Call Center 1718 of Wallonia. Forest traffic Since 14 September 2018, the delimitation, in consultation with the European Commission and the FASFC, of the infected perimeter in different zones provided for a ban on forest traffic in the Buffer and Core Zones. That decision was dictated by the imperative need not to spread the virus by avoiding disturbing wild boar populations while enabling the systematic search for carcasses to be carried out in complete safety. Since May 15, 2020, by ministerial order, traffic is again authorized under certain conditions.
