Preliminary Flood Risk Assessment (EPRI) - Areas with significant potential flood risk

This data layer identifies areas at significant potential flood risk based on the preliminary flood risk assessment conducted at Wallonia level.
Directive 2007/60/EC, known as the Floods Directive (FD), lays down provisions for the assessment and management of flood risks. It requires each Member State to carry out a preliminary flood risk assessment (EPRI) within its territory. This preliminary assessment must make it possible to identify areas at significant potential flood risk in Wallonia and, therefore, to draw up flood risk management plans.
On the basis of the analysis of historical (Preliminary Flood Risk Assessment - Past Events) and future (Future Events) flood events, the areas at significant potential flood risk could be determined, as expected by the Flood Directive (DI - Art.5).
The preliminary assessment showed that the entire Walloon territory is susceptible to flooding. Indeed, all municipalities have already experienced at least one flooding event since 1993. Each of the 15 Walloon sub-watersheds is therefore identified as an Area of Potential Significant Flood Risk (APSFR). This is a common conclusion for Belgium.
Areas at significant potential risk of flooding are therefore represented by a point placed at the centroid of the watershed of the management plans in question.
