Central Population Register (CPR)

Description

The Central Person Register (CPR) is a central, nationwide land register. The main purpose is to assign everyone living in Denmark a personal identification number (CPR number) for use in their secure identification. In addition, the purpose is to record basic personal data relating to the persons concerned, such as their address of residence, which may be disclosed to public authorities and private persons having a legitimate interest in doing so. Thus, the CPR only contains personal data related to the data subjects. The CPR administration functions through the Central Person Register as a central provider of personal data to public authorities and to the private sector. The CPR administration is organisationally located in the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Interior's department.
