Patients with major myocardial infarction treated with acute coronary artery opening (reperfusion) within the recommended time, proportion (%) - Target level ≥ 90

Description

The indicator refers to the time delay between the first ECG and the start of reperfusion therapy in patients with major myocardial infarction , ST segment elevation myocardial infarction. The measure shows the proportion of patients treated within the target time, for PCI 90 minutes and for thrombolysis 30 minutes. Fast reperfusion therapy is an important success factor – the shorter the time to treatment, the greater the treatment benefit. International and national guidelines recommend PCI within 90 minutes or thrombolysis within 30 minutes of the first ECG where PCI is not possible. The indicator reflects the health care's actions, in that the time for the first ECG is the starting point. The total time between onset of symptoms and treatment depends on how the patient, relatives, medical advice and emergency services relate to chest pain and other symptoms of myocardial infarction, as well as on transport times. The indicator is taken from SWEDEHEART's annual report of the quality index for myocardial infarction care and is one of the national heart guidelines' indicators for follow-up. The National Board of Health and Welfare has set the target level at 90 per cent or higher.
