Description
Number of kilograms of gross waste collected per adjusted number of inhabitants in the municipality. Refers to gross waste from households and thus comparable waste from other activities, e.g. shops, offices, industries and restaurants, etc. Coarse waste means garden waste, sorted wood, other combustible, corrugated board, scrap metal, plaster, flat glass, municipal plastic, landfill residues and other rough waste. The collection takes place primarily through the municipality’s staffed recycling centres, but also via near-property pick-up (e.g. coarse waste room, container exhibition, campaign pick-up once or twice a year). Comparable waste from other activities involves, for example, broken furniture from a company’s staff room. However, construction waste from the carpentry company is not included. However, many municipalities find it difficult to distinguish this and therefore it can sometimes be included in the figure reported. The number of inhabitants is adjusted with regard to holiday homes, guest nights and commuting. In distinctly holiday home municipalities or municipalities with extensive tourist activities, much more household waste is generated than the permanent residents give rise to. Even in municipalities with a large increment surplus, a lot of household waste is generated through the workplaces. By using an adjusted number of inhabitants, the amount of waste per person is more accurately reflected for their own municipality, which facilitates comparisons with other municipalities.
