Description
Percentage of hospitalizations where the patient has suffered one or more injuries. All injuries are included, both those that have been assessed as avoidable in a journal review and those that have been assessed as non-avoidable. Examples of injuries are pressure ulcers or healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) that the patient received during hospitalization. The review team, consisting of doctors and nurses, makes a random selection of a number of medical records per month. Thereafter, medical records from these care sessions are reviewed to seek markers, i.e. medical records that involve an increased risk of an injury having occurred. If the patient has suffered an injury during the treatment, the review team makes an assessment of the type of injury, how serious it is and whether it could have been avoided. Data are available according to gender breakdown.
