Preliminary draft Road Traffic Noise Action Plan 2013 – 2018

Main features:
1. The EU Environmental Noise Directive requires, among other things, large municipalities such as Groningen to create sound maps and an action plan and to communicate this with citizens.
2. On 19 June 2012, we adopted the acoustic data on the basis of the ‘Sound maps 2011 municipality of Groningen’ and submitted it to the Minister for Infrastructure and the Environment. It compiles all the acoustic data for its reporting to Brussels.
3. Traffic noise and air pollution from traffic are two sides of the same coin. That is why this action plan establishes a relationship with air quality. Both environmental factors are assessed from a health point of view using the health scores of the GES method.
4. The present Preliminary Draft Action Plan will be made available for inspection for six weeks in February/March 2013. During this consultation period, anyone can submit views on the Preliminary Draft Action Plan or respond to the sound cards. A walk-in meeting will be organised for the Stadjers.
The aim of this Preliminary Draft Action Plan is to improve the quality of the living environment in Groningen.
