Working together against poverty

Minima think like experts about policy.
For the development of the new poverty policy of the municipality of Groningen, O&S Groningen has conducted a deliberative poll below minimums. This methodology links opinion polling to deliberation, discussion and information provision.
People from the target group are approached as experts. After all, minima are experiential experts in making ends meet with little money. A random selection of 1600 minima resulted in 400 responses. We first informed these respondents about the possibilities with the help of short videos. From this group, 80 minimums have registered for a polling day.
Both the minima and the professionals involved were very enthusiastic about this form of polling. It has given the minima in Groningen a great voice in the development of the policy intended for them.
The research is a co-production of O&S Groningen, the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Groningen, the Policy Department of the Social Affairs Department Groningen and the MJD.
