New construction, removals and segregation

Description

In the period 2010-2020, some 800,000 homes still need to be built in the Netherlands. On the one hand to be able to accommodate the growing number of households (expected to be +570,000), on the other hand to replace outdated homes. The construction of these new homes triggers all kinds of relocation flows, which can have effects on the population composition in existing neighborhoods. Remarkably, no previous research has been conducted into the effect of these relocation flows on, for example, the concentration of immigrant households and on the segregation of low-income groups in disadvantaged neighbourhoods.
