Commissioned by the project agency Regio Groningen-Assen 2030, research was carried out into the region as a future living and living area.
The focus is specifically on the target group of knowledge workers as residential consumers. Linking the themes of the knowledge economy and housing wishes was a rewarding research goal, as there was a lot of literature available on the individual themes. Dr D. de Jonge, for example, already reported in 1960 that ‘housing wishes are rooted in human nature and social conditions, partly also in traditions, which have their origins in previous times, because a certain continuity in social life is inevitable’.
Yet the housing requirements of today differ considerably from those of just after the Second World War. Research combining the themes of knowledge economy and housing needs was also available to a reasonable extent. However, such a study has never been carried out for the Groningen-Assen region.
Within the region, the knowledge economy is attributed great potential, in order to attract the required knowledge workers or to retain them for the region, it is important to take into account the housing requirements of this target group.
For the research, an online survey was sent to all employees and students of the University of Groningen and the UMCG as the most important regional knowledge institutions. The results were gratefully used.
