G-force, policy framework
Description
G-kracht is the name of the municipality of Groningen's multi-annual economic programme for the period 2010 to 2014. By analogy with the physical term G-force stands for acceleration of the economic development of Groningen. In addition, G-force stands for the power of Groningen.
G-kracht is the successor to the Economic Business Plan ‘Stad aan de Slag’ (EBP), which expires at the end of 2009. Employment has developed strongly over the policy period and unemployment has fallen sharply. In the past few years, Groningen has also experienced a strong development in terms of the number of start-ups and business locations. Many hectares of business park have been revitalized. With more than 30 million visitors annually spending almost 1 billion euros, the city centre remains an important economic factor.
The question of the extent to which the results achieved can be attributed to the economic policies pursued remains difficult to answer, despite the many research programmes. The effects are difficult to measure. In order to be able to answer this question of effectiveness, the most quantitative possible substantiation has been given and the municipal role has been explained on the basis of concrete projects.
