The induction of survivors of persons deceased by suicide to family-oriented aftercare
Description
Background:
Relatives of people who died from suicide have an increased risk of suicidal behavior. Suicidal thoughts are a clue.
Family-oriented cognitive-behavioral therapy (FBT) reduces health risks in high-risk individuals. Procedures to reach surviving families with FGT were evaluated.
The question was which procedure leads to the use of FGT by relatives with an increased suicide risk.
Methodology:
Quasi-experimental implementation study in which FGT was offered to families in the Northern Netherlands (180 suicides per year).
Aid workers and agencies distributed leaflets and in Groningen (n=70) also proactively offered by the family doctor of the deceased and in Friesland (n=60) by the GGD.
