The effects of abolishing the brothel ban on STD/AIDS care provided by the GGD Groningen
Description
The introduction of a licensing system for brothel farms in October 2000 did not adversely affect preventive aid aimed at preventing STDs. Due to a more efficient organisation of the consultation hour and a small increase in the consultation hour capacity for STD screenings at the GGD in 2001, the number of women examined has increased sharply.
In the period January to September 2000, 24 women were returned and in the same period in 2001 67 women were disappointed due to lack of capacity. As of 2001, no prostitutes under the age of 18 were seen at the prostitution consultation hour. It is plausible that this was caused by the stricter supervision of the aliens police on both the age and the residence status of the prostitutes.
