Alternative transport downtown
Description
From July 2022, buses will no longer run over the Grote Markt. This could pose a problem for certain target groups: people with disabilities and older people who have difficulty walking longer distances. For this reason, a pilot ‘Alternative Transport Inner City’ was launched. During the pilot, rickshaws are driven by bicycle stewards to bring the target groups from the bus stops around the city centre to a desired destination within the city centre and vice versa.
The pilot shows that De Grote Markt is the most popular place: Many rides go to or from the Grand Place. In general, elderly people are transported.
