GHRSST Level 4 OSTIA Global Historical Reprocessed Foundation Sea Surface Temperature Analysis produced by the UK Meteorological Office

Description

A Group for High Resolution Sea Surface Temperature (GHRSST) Level 4 historical reprocessed SST product containing daily gap-free maps of foundation SST and ice concentration on a global 0.05 x 0.05 degree horizontal grid produced by the UK Met Office. The Operational Sea Surface Temperature and Sea Ice Analysis (OSTIA) reprocessed product uses satellite data from multiple visible-IR and microwave sensors that include the Spinning Enhanced Visible and Infrared Imager (SEVIRI), the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR), the GOES Advanced Baseline Imager (ABI), the Sea and Land Surface Temperature Radiometer (SLSTR), the Advanced Along Track Scanning Radiometer ((A)ATSR-1/2), the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer -2 (AMSR-2), the GPM Microwave Imager (GMI), and in situ data from drifting and moored buoys. This foundation SST analysis, which is the temperature free of diurnal variability, was specifically produced to be used as a lower boundary condition in Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) models, having over 40 years of data records from 1982 to present. This dataset adheres to the GHRSST Data Processing Specification (GDS) version 2 format specifications. Data to June 2022 are also distributed through the E.U.
