Description
This numerical mapping of the benthic stands of the soft substrates of the bay of Saint-Brieuc was carried out in 2010, according to the 1/50000 map drawn up by Gérard Thouzeau of the University of Western Brittany and Dominique Hamon of Ifremer centre of Brest and published in 1992.
A harmonisation with the EUNIS typology was carried out in 2011 by Dominique Hamon.
The documents behind this dataset are the result of research from the EUPHORBE and PNDR Coquille Saint-Jacques programmes. The study of macrozoobenthic stands of the movable bottoms of Saint-Brieuc Bay led to the identification of 447 species, the definition of 7 stands and a biosedimentary facies.
The benthic macrofauna has a classical "belt" distribution, based on a rib-wide gradient of increasing particle size. This distribution is locally disturbed by the existence of rocky enclaves and shoals that induce spatial variations in hydrodynamics and the sedimentary nature of the bottoms.
