Description
The data relate to soils, products of alteration, reshuffle and organisation of the upper layers of the earth’s crust under the action of life, atmosphere and energy exchange manifested there (Aubert and Boulaine). The thickness of the described medium rarely exceeds 2 m.
These data may be useful for any study requiring spatialised soil information (production of agricultural or forest biomass, quality and quantitative management of water, biodiversity, carbon storage, erosion risk, spatial planning, landscape analysis, archaeology, etc.)
Several information represented by soil mapping units is available with a dominant value and a proposed secondary value per map unit (soil may exhibit significant spatial variability). List of parameters represented: parental material, surface pierrosity, surface texture, depth of the soil, characteristic of water circulation in the soil...This list can gradually be enriched.
These open-access data come from the extraction and processing of the Alsace soil database at the more complete and detailed 1/250 000th managed by the Association for Agronomic Recovery in Alsace (ARAA).
