Description
The analysis shall cover the turbidity parameter (NTU) values measured in the coastal and transitional waters of the Western Channel and the Bay of Biscay. Only the period of highest primary production (March to October) is considered, excluding winter turbid episodes caused by weather conditions (period of low primary production).
The transparency indicator is the 90 percentile, which corresponds to the value such that 90% of the observed values are lower than it. It is compared to the reference value for the type of the water body.
Transparency is a parameter for which the results have not led to any change so far
of the DCE classification in recent years. Therefore, the update is only done for each water body once per 6-year management plan, unless new and significant observations change the assessment.
