WFD – Loire-Bretagne Basin – Ecological status – Physico-chemical status – Salinity
Description
Brutal variations in salinity, intense and repeated, can be harmful to the proper functioning of marine organisms. However, the monthly samples as prescribed by the WFD do not allow the duration and frequency of any desalination to be monitored. The salinity quality indicator was therefore declared irrelevant by experts in coastal and transitional water bodies as part of the WFD monitoring programme. Nevertheless, this parameter is systematically measured during sea trips, in order to support the interpretation of other hydrological (dissolved nutrients and oxygen) and biological parameters.
