WFD – Loire-Bretagne Basin – Ecological status – Biological status – Maerl
Description
The analysis focuses on the monitoring of the Western Channel and Bay of Biscay maërl banks.
Banks formed by accumulations of limestone red algae of the coralline family shall be taken from the Van Veen dumpster in order to:
- the assessment of the recovery rate (area of thalli reported on the surface of the sample);
-the evaluation of the rate of vitality (surface of living thalli reported to the surface of dead thalli).
This quality sub-element of the macroalgae element first used for the assessment of the ecological quality of water bodies within the meaning of the WFD has finally been removed from the parameters since 2011. The latest assessment of this quality element is presented in the DCE Loire-Bretagne Atlas. Previous statements are available in annual archives
