WFD – Loire-Bretagne Basin – Ecological status – Biological status – Intertidal benthic invertebrates

Description

The analysis covers the monitoring of benthic invertebrate stands in the coastal and transitional water bodies of the Western Channel and the Bay of Biscay and the assessment of their biological quality. Benthic macroinvertebrates are excellent integrators and indicators of the general state of the environment and can make it possible, thanks to certain sensitive organisms, to identify and quantify anthropogenic pressures on these water bodies. The parameters of the quality element "benthic invertebrates" used to define biological status are: - the level of diversity and abundance of taxa; - all disturbance-sensitive taxa. Benthic macroinvertebrate stands are monitored in the intertidal zone. The most recent assessment of the condition of these stands is presented in the DCE Loire-Bretagne atlas. Previous statements are available in annual archives
