Description
The analysis concerns the monitoring of marine angiosperm stands in the coastal and transitional water bodies of the Western Channel and the Bay of Biscay and the assessment of their biological quality.In the Atlantic Channel, the species of phanerogams to be considered are:
- Zostera noltii constituting only intertidal herbariums in this region.
-Zostera marina constituting subtidal or intertidal seagrass beds.
Two types of descriptors are used to describe eelgrass beds:
- Extension of seagrass beds (total control for homogeneous seagrass beds, or control of the vegetated surface for fragmented seagrass beds);
- Demographic and biometric characteristics of populations (air and underground biomass, density, foot height, etc.).
The most recent assessment of the condition of these stands is presented in the DCE Loire-Bretagne atlas. Previous reports are available in annual archives.
