Description
The analysis focuses on the hydromorphological state of the coastal and transitional waters from the Belgian border to the Somme Bay. Hydromorphology is represented by two ‘quality elements’: - the ‘morphological conditions’ which are, for transitional waters, variations in the depth, quantity, structure and substrate of the bed and the structure of the intertidal zone; for coastal waters, variations in the depth, structure and substrate of the coast and the structure of the intertidal zone; - the ‘tidal regime’ which is described for transitional waters by the flow of fresh water and exposure to waves, for coastal waters by the direction of dominant currents and exposure to waves. The term ‘hydro-morphology’ therefore implies the hydrodynamic and morphological components, the latter including the substrate. Hydromorphology is involved in the classification only at the level of very good status for water bodies that meet the conditions of very good biological and physico-chemical status.
