WFD – Artois-Picardie Basin – Ecological status – Biological status – Proliferating algae
Description
The analysis focuses on the monitoring of proliferating macroalgae stands in coastal and transitional water bodies from the Belgian border to the Somme Bay.
Opportunistic macroalgae are followed by aerial photographs in water bodies with drifting green tides in sandy and open systems and green tides of mudflats in muddy and landlocked systems.
The classification of water bodies is based on:
- the maximum and average percentages of the colonizable area covered by green algae
- the area affected and the frequency of algal deposits.
The most recent assessment of these opportunistic macroalgae is presented in the Artois-Picardie WFD Atlas. Previous reports are available in annual archives.
