Emission of gas in the Marmara Sea between 4 November and 14 December 2009 (S. Dupré, 2015)

Description

Spatial distribution of gas emissions in the Marmara Sea, based on acoustic data from the water column acquired in 2009 during the MARMESONET campaign. This dataset is a vector file of polygons, representing the insonified area of the seabed, within which gas emissions could be recorded between 4 November 2009 and 14 December 2009. This dataset corresponds to Figure 4 of the publication cited below "Tectonic and sedimentary controls for widespread gas emissions in the Sea of Marmara. Results from systematic, shipborne multibeam echosounder water column imageries." This paper discusses the links between seafloor fluid emissions and the fault network (active and inactive), and the sediment environment (nature, thickness of sediment layers and associated processes).
