Description

Assessment of the ecological quality of coastal water bodies in Réunion as part of the monitoring programme of the Water Framework Directive (2000/60/EC) for temperature. Measurements shall be carried out on-site in sub-surface in coastal water bodies and surface-to-bottom (inf 3m) in reef-type coastal water bodies. The management plan is monitored every year on the basis of two campaigns per sampled period: Southern winter (July/August), warm season (November/December), mid-cyclonic season (February/March). The indicator is defined as the percentage of measures outside an envelope considered to ensure the proper ecological functioning of the ecosystem. It allows classification into two states: good or bad. In the absence of a reference envelope, reef-type coastal water bodies are not assessed and status against this element is noted as ‘unknown’. The following years of monitoring will make it possible to assess these water bodies at a later stage. Map 2016: Evaluation based on data acquired between 31 December 2013 and the 2016 evaluation during the RLR (Réseau Hydrologique du Littoral Réunionnais) campaigns of the WFD.
