Description
Zoning updated in 2014 of the Transfrontier Biosphere Reserve Vosges du Nord-Pfälzerwald, which covers both Natural Parks.
Obtained by merging national zoning with harmonisation at border level. The outer limit on the French side comes from the merging of the boundaries of the BD Topo de l’IGN (version of April 2014), with division according to the road network at the level of Phalsburg and Wissembourg, municipalities only partly on the territory of the PNRVN. A biosphere reserve is organised in 3 types of areas, where the objectives of protection, maintenance and development are divided:
— Central areas, having as their function the protection of nature and to be protected by national legislation (classified protected areas).
— Buffer zones, which surround or adjoin central areas. These are areas of sustainable development where production activities must remain compatible with ecological principles, including environmental education, recreation and scientific research;
— Transitional areas (also known as ‘cooperation’) are suitable for various activities. The external border is always flexible.
