Description
The development of road and rail traffic, as well as sometimes poorly controlled urbanisation around land transport infrastructure, have created situations of high noise exposure.
In order to prevent new nuisances, during the construction of new buildings in the vicinity of existing roads, sound insulation requirements, defined by the Order of 30 May 1996, must be complied with by the builders (main contractors, construction companies, etc.) of the buildings concerned (housing, hotel, educational establishment, health and care establishment) in the context of construction contracts.
The rules applicable to sound insulation on buildings built close to land transport infrastructure are based on Article L571-10 and Articles R571-32 to R571-43 of the Environment Code.
Compliance with these requirements by manufacturers is essential to avoid the creation of new noise black spots.
Land transport infrastructure is classified into 5 categories according to the noise level it generates, with category 1 being the noisiest. A noise-affected sector shall be defined on either side of each classified infrastructure, in which the sound insulation requirements shall be complied with. See Order of 30 May 1996.
