Description
It is the electoral district in which a general councillor is elected.
The cantons, like the departments, were created by the law of 22 December 1789.
In most cases, the cantons comprise several municipalities.
But the cantons do not always respect the municipal boundaries: in the most populated municipalities, several cantons are defined.
