Description
The public inland waterway domain (DPF) is managed mainly by Voies navigables de France (VNF), which is a public establishment of the State with an industrial and commercial character, thus governed by private law and partly by the Departmental Directorates of the Territories (DDT), the latter are under the Ministry of the Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy.
Watercourses are assigned to the public domain, simply by ranking in the public domain of the State. In this case their beds and banks belong to public persons they are governed by the administrative law of property.
