Description
A regional natural park is part of the Protected Natural Areas (PNAs) which are areas designated or managed in an international, community, national or local context with a view to achieving specific objectives for the conservation of natural heritage.
Regional natural parks aim to enhance large fortified areas
cultural and natural interest, and to ensure the sustainable development of these territories, which are often very rural in character. They are created following the will of local authorities (municipalities, communities of municipalities, departments, regions) to implement a territorial project resulting in the drafting of a charter.
A park is labeled for a period of 12 years maximum by the State, and can be
renewed. It is classified in category V of IUCN (protected landscapes).
