A national interest operation (NIO) is, in France, an urban planning operation to which a particular legal regime applies because of its overriding interest. The State retains control of urban planning policy in these areas.
Reinforcing the originality of the 1983 “INO” mechanism, the Act of 13 July 2006 establishing a national commitment for housing (the ENL Act) extends its scope by providing for the establishment in new areas.
